PROBLEMS
Wood waste application. Prospect has an existing grinder which cannot keep up with the scrap wood created in the manufacturing process. This situation is resulting in additional labor costs, and high landfill disposal expense. The in-feed opening, on the present grinder, is too small for easy "dump and run" loading. Too much "spillage." The present grinder is also in need of major "overhaul." Maintenance and repair costs have been excessive. Overall objective would be to achieve a suitable wood fuel for the boiler, reduce maintenance costs, while eliminating, or substantially reducing, landfill disposal expenses.
SOLUTION
Solution offered is to replace existing grinder with a larger shredder to accommodate "dump and run" loading. Shredder discharge would be equipped with a screen sized for boiler fuel. A pneumatic take-away fitting would be included to adapt the shredder to the present dust collection system. Ground wood scrap would be pneumatically conveyed directly to the wood fiber boiler fuel storage container.
ACTION
Prospective customer chose the solution offered, and issued a purchase order to IMPACT GRINDERS for the proposed shredder, which included a trade in of the existing grinder.
RESULTS
The "new" shredder was delivered to the customer, and installed by the in-plant maintenance personnel. Installation supervision and operator training was provided by IMPACT GRINDERS. Customer comment overheard at startup: "the throughput is unbelievable." Customer shreds all plant wood scrap generated in manufacturing process. Hardwood, softwood, particle board, and other wood scrap materials. It is all consumed as boiler fuel, which has helped to keep this customer very competitive in times of high energy costs. Landfill disposal costs, for wood scraps, have been eliminated. Excellent payback. Good Return On Investment Capital!
